Crystal River –

Flow: 53cfs/Redstone, 63 cfs/Carbondale

Conditions: Not a lot to report here as the majority of the river is still pretty locked-up in ice and snow once you’re out of headquarters here in Bonedale. The fishing down here in town has been pretty decent though. We’ve had quite a few customers and guides telling us about seeing good numbers of rising fish during the late afternoons and evenings the past two weeks. Though we’re not seeing fishable hatches of BWOs quite yet, they could be encountered any day now. Stealth really pays off on the Crystal right now with the low and clear water. Approach fish and likely areas slowly – take your time and you’ll be rewarded. Small beaded attractor flies like winter micro stones, caddis larva, Rainbow Warriors and egg patterns will catch fish. Be certain to trail them with small and dark BWO and midge patterns.

Flies

Dries: No Hackle BWO, Roy’s Special Emerger, Adams Comparadun, Griffiths Gnat, Zelon Midge, CDC Midge Adult

Nymphs: Flashtail Eggs, Jiggy Egg, TZMs, CDC RS2s, Mercury RS2, Rainbow Warriors, Prince, Buckskin, Bullets/Perdigons/Frenchies whatever,

Streamers: Jig Mini Bugger, Thin Mints, PSLs, Sculpzillas
