Roaring Fork River Fishing Report
Flow: 66 cfs/Aspen (Jaffe Park), 242cfs/Basalt, 444cfs/Glenwood Springs
Conditions: All fishing closures on the Roaring Fork have been lifted!
The river is low, clear, cool and fishing has much improved over the past week or so. Lighter tippets and smaller flies are the most productive right now outside of fishing a worm. Tiny and shiny is a good motto with Rainbow Warriors, Sparklewing RS2s, Flashback PTs and the like all picking up fish. Tricos are being seen during the morning hours with mostly small BWOs being seen midday. Errant PMDs and Caddis comprise the lesser hatches. A bright spot this year has been the hopper fishing; I suppose the drought brought on more hoppers than we are accustomed to seeing. Who doesn’t like watching a trout crush a hopper along a shady bank? The streamer bite was pretty epic in August and we expect it to only turn on more in the coming weeks. Floaters should take note that once flows dip below 400cfs floating is very difficult (and hopefully the Colorado opens back up). We’re back baby!
