Crystal River –

Flow: 918 cfs/Redstone, 1080 cfs/Carbondale

Conditions: Late Spring is here and runoff conditions are present with high but fairly clear water visibility. With a below average snowpack this winter, expect the Crystal to shine from now thru August. Currently the best fishing is taking place above Redstone where the water clarity is more favorable and the water less turbid. Keep in mind, covering water on the Crystal makes more of a difference than fishing the “right” fly. Dry/dropper rigs are great for the abundant pocket water. Nymphing the less frequent deeper pools with attractors like beadheads and worms trailed by a more exact PMD/caddis imitation is productive right now. Overall, expect the fishing to really pick-up once runoff subsides here in a week or two.

Flies

Dries: ParaWulff Patriot, Purple Haze, Rubber Leg Stimi’s, Foam Hi Vis Elk Hair Caddis, Sparkledun PMD, Royal Humpy, Mini Foamulator

Nymphs: Jiggy Prince, Perdigons, French Dips, Micro Mayflies, Mercury RS2, San Juan Worm, Tungsten Electric Caddis, Zebra Midges, Rainbow Warriors

Streamers: Sculpzillas, P3 Buggers, Thin Mints
