Crystal River –

Flow: 65 cfs/Redstone, 7 cfs/Carbondale

Conditions: Very low water conditions along the lower river below Avalanche Creek. The river above Redstone has been fishing significantly better. Still low and clear, stealth is of huge importance. The deeper pools and seams are certainly fishing best early and late in the day with the cold water. During the warmth of afternoons, look for fish to also be found in the abundant pocket water. This is also where dry or hopper/dropper rigs shine. With the aspens starting to turn colors, there might not be a more beautiful place to fly fish in the Roaring Fork/Crystal Valleys. The Redstone Preserve (next to our sister store in Redstone) has been fishing very well for those wanting a more intimate experience without the crowds.

Flies

Dries: ParaWulff Patriot, Purple Haze, Rubber Leg Stimi’s, Royal Humpy, Mini Foamulator, Para Hopper

Nymphs: Jiggy Prince, Perdigons, French Dips, Micro Mayflies, Mercury RS2, Tungsten Electric Caddis, Zebra Midges, Rainbow Warriors

Streamers: P3 Buggers, Thin Mints
