Frying Pan River

Flow: 54cfs/below Ruedi Reservoir

Conditions: We’ve settled into the winter flow regimen – low, clear and cold. Small flies and light tippets are now more crucial than ever. Sporadic hatches of BWOs are still being seen while the midge hatches have yet to really kick-in. Truthfully, December conditions are much more favorable as the brown trout spawn late here due to the warmer winter water temps, as well as the midge hatches becoming heavier and heavier as winter rolls forward. The upper river is certainly fishing best as the fishing has tapered off dramatically along the lower river. Light tippets and small flies rule right now. Not much for rising fish but the nymphing is pretty solid for the time of year.
