Roaring Fork River
Flow: 113cfs/Aspen (Jaffe Park), 242cfs/Basalt, 410cfs/Glenwood Springs
Conditions: : A CPW enacted daily afternoon voluntary closure is in effect from noon to midnight from the Highway 133 bridge in Carbondale to the Colorado River confluence.
Water is low, clear and staying cool especially above Carbondale due to it’s higher elevation and the influence of the Frying Pan. As the river continues to drop, flies generally downsize. Likewise, most fish have pushed off the banks and into or near the main river flow. There are always exceptions to this of course, including hoppers/chubbies and streamers. Dawn patrol is paramount below Carbondale, where fishing is still solid with most anglers streamer or hopper fishing of some sort. The fishing along the upper river has been solid. Hatches are a bit stronger up here right now with longer fishing windows. Monsoonal rains have started recently with good outlooks the coming week for clouds and moisture and increased flows from the Frying Pan. We’re super thankful to have such a varied mix of water at hand here in the Valley where you can always find good fishing somewhere.
